No-show calculator for mobile groomers
See what one empty stop really costs.
A missed groom can lose service value and add drive, prep, and follow-up time. Use your own month to see the cost without counting the same empty appointment twice.
- Missed service value
- Wasted route time
- Extra prep and follow-up
No-show calculator
Estimate one month of missed-stop cost.
Start every box at zero and use your own records. The formula stays visible, uses no industry averages, and does not assume every missed visit can be prevented.
Protect the real route day
The cost starts before the van reaches an empty stop.
A no-show can leave service time unused after the appointment was confirmed, the route was reviewed, the dog was prepared for, and the van was already moving. OpenDog can support reminders and clearer route-day context, but no software can guarantee a client will be there.
Count one honest month.
Review the last four weeks instead of using a worst day. Count appointments where the client did not give useful notice and the groom could not be completed or replaced.
- Use the actual missed-appointment count
- Use the normal service value for those visits
- Leave unusual emergencies in the record, but review them separately
- Use zero when a cost did not happen
Start with the service that did not happen.
Missed service value is the number of missed appointments multiplied by the average service value you enter. It is a planning estimate, not the same as accounting profit or guaranteed lost revenue.
- Use completed-groom pricing as context
- Do not add an empty route slot as another lost appointment
- Keep tips, taxes, and optional add-ons out unless they were reasonably expected
Add only time that was truly spent.
Wasted drive time, preparation, cleanup, calls, and messages can matter even when the groom never starts. Enter the combined minutes and an hourly value you can explain.
- Count travel caused by the missed stop
- Count preparation already completed
- Count the follow-up needed to close or rebook the visit
- Do not count time that was used for another paid groom
Subtract what the business recovered.
If a deposit or clearly disclosed fee was kept under the business policy, enter that amount once. The calculator subtracts it from the estimated cost and never shows a result below zero.
- Use only money the business actually kept
- Do not assume a pending or disputed payment will settle
- Keep the policy clear before the appointment
- OpenDog does not decide or automatically charge a no-show fee
Fix the next preventable miss—not every client problem.
Use the total to choose one practical change: clearer confirmation, a better reminder, complete access details, a fair policy, or faster follow-up. No process prevents every no-show.
- Confirm the date, time or arrival window, pet, service, and address
- Make it easy for the client to reply with a change
- Repeat the cancellation or deposit rule in plain language
- Check access details before the route starts
Keep reminders accurate and human.
A useful reminder tells the client exactly what is coming and how to respond. OpenDog currently supports appointment confirmation and reminder emails. SMS, automatic ETA texts, and on-my-way texts are Coming Soon and should not be promised as live today.
- Review the exact email before relying on it
- Confirm the client email and appointment details
- Use consent and the supported channel
- Keep the client reply connected to the appointment
Record what happened before rebooking.
After a missed stop, record the facts, the contact attempt, any payment or policy decision, and whether another appointment makes sense. Keep the tone calm and the rule consistent.
- Separate a late cancellation from a no-show
- Note weather, access, safety, or emergency context
- Explain any next-booking requirement before confirming
- Review patterns by client, route area, day, and appointment type
FAQ
Common questions from grooming businesses.
Is this a real interactive calculator?
Yes. It calculates in your browser as you type. OpenDog does not receive or save the numbers you enter on this page.
Does OpenDog prevent every no-show?
No. OpenDog can support confirmation and reminder emails, appointment context, policies, payment records, and follow-up, but no software can guarantee attendance.
Should I add the empty route gap separately?
No. The missed service value already represents that empty appointment. Add only separate costs, such as wasted travel, preparation, follow-up, fuel, or tolls that were not already counted.
What should I use for my hourly value?
Use a planning number you can explain, such as the value of a grooming hour or what you would pay for help. When unsure, use the lower number.
How do deposits or fees affect the estimate?
Enter only the amount the business actually kept under a clearly disclosed policy. The calculator subtracts it from the estimated cost. Provider processing, settlement, refunds, and disputes still need separate review.
Can OpenDog automatically charge a no-show fee?
No. The business decides its policy and reviews each situation. OpenDog does not decide or automatically charge a client for a missed visit.
Turn the cost into one better route-day habit.
Calculate the real impact, then use clearer confirmation, reminders, access details, policies, payment context, and follow-up to reduce the preventable misses.
